Lighting has hit the big time….BIG in an Alice in Wonderland kind of way - super-sized pendants, jumbo floor and table lamps as well as big exposed light bulbs. Oversized and bold they challenge our sense of scale and throw any sort of rule on proportionality out the window!

I do love this play on proportions though – a bit whimsical, a bit fun and maybe even a bit bonkers (in a good way).  It’s not just about lighting a space, these bold beauties create visual excitement and a touch of the unexpected - a great choice if you are looking for an over the top style statement.  Mmmmm, I’m starting to think that big is indeed better….take a peek at these!

No twee Victoriana here, despite it’s traditional design, the sheer size of the floor lamp gives the room a modern edge -

Great mix of styles in this kitchen but those oversized pendants really are the stars of the show, they pull the room together -

Dutch designer Alex de Witte has created The Big Bubble pendant lights that look just like …well… big blown bubbles!

This Parisian room has a lovely ethereal quality and that large dome-shaped light is almost cloud-like hovering above the room -

There’s no ignoring this gold dome!

The striking Porcelain Chandelier by British designer Abigail Ahearn (aptly described as “jaw-droppingly glamorous”) -

The delicateness of the Ay Illuminate Z1 cotton lamp gives the lovely impression that the light is “floating” above the bed -

The beautiful Enoki Cumulus Pendant – in pairs it creates an even bigger impact -

Who needs a shade?  A jumbo exposed light bulb is all you want in this reading nook -

A retro oversized cork lamp is a great choice for this space especially with its earthy neutral hues -

Love the pairing of the low bed with an oversized bedside lamp -

Jumbo sized floor lamps look great in sitting rooms taking on a sculptural quality -

And lastly, the gorgeous Atlas Floor Lamp -

So what’s the verdict – is bigger better?
