The Timeless Kitchen
With shows like The Block and House Rules on TV it’s not difficult to feel inspired in our own homes. As seasons change we confidently swap out cushions and throw rugs to help revive a tired living room or bedroom. But when it comes to making more permanent decisions like tackling the bathroom or kitchen we want to make sure we’re making the right choices.
If you’re looking for some pointers, then we’ve got the low down on creating a picture-perfect kitchen, that you’ll enjoy creating your culinary masterpieces in for years to come.
First things first, it is important not to over complicate the space, keeping things simple will ensure you won’t tire of the look and be desperate to start again in few years. Start with a neutral colour scheme that compliments the rest of the home and introduce pops of colour with accessories, appliances or indoor plants, this is a cost-effective way of staying on trend without breaking the bank.
1. Counter Tops
Counter tops are the foundation of your kitchen, so to be safe keep it neutral. Our favourite counter top trends right now are:
- White
- Black
- Timber
- Stone - such as marble or granite, both natural and engineered
2. Cabinets
Your kitchen cabinets will determine the overall style of the space and become the backdrop to your kitchen. They're one of the first things people will notice as they walk into the room. Try going with a simple design and colour, you can update tired old cabinets with a lick of paint if your budget doesn't allow for a full refit and instead splurge on handles. These are easy to change with trends in future and will help create that statement look.
3. Splashback
Choosing a splashback can be fun! It’s a great way to make a statement in a room or experiment with texture and pattern. A marble tile is great for creating interest and a sense of luxury. Marble is now available in all sorts of shapes, sizes, from traditional subway to contemporary geometrics. And did we mention the colours? The sky really is the limit!! And don’t forget grouts. We’re seeing high contrast between darks and lights, as well as subtle monochromes that give a seamless finish.
4. All in the details
So now you have the bones of a perfect kitchen, it's time to add some colour! We love an all-white kitchen with pops of colour all around, some of our favourite ways to add colour:
- Indoor Plants xcx or terrarium
- Adding Books
- A Floor Runner
- Appliance
- Fixtures and fittings
