I’m feeling a bit blue….an inky saturated indigo kind of blue.  Gorgeously daring and dramatic, I’m loving this moody hue in interiors right now.  Mmmm, maybe I’ve got a colour crush…..

Indigo is one of the oldest dyes to be used in textiles and is said to be the purest of blues.  It’s a great colour if you want to create a bold impact or drama.  It goes with just about everything – deep enough for winter but also refreshing enough for summer, it looks great paired with neutrals and greys, woods and natural materials.  I’m seeing so much of it in traditional and tribal styles and patterns.  I think where we are seeing indigo at it's best though is in the bedroom – perhaps because of the calming and cocooning vibe it evokes.

We are huge fans of Arent & Pyke.  This bedroom is taken from a Sydney terrace (featured in this months issue of Vogue Living).  The bedlinen (Society available through Ondene) picks up the blue in the rug beautifully (‘Damascus’ wool rug from The Rug Company) –

This bed features bedlinen with traditional block and dip dying techniques.  It brings a tribal earthy vibe to the room (especially paired with the textural light fitting) -

The layering of blues in this room creates a calm, ethereal quality to the space -

The Tahla Indigo floor rug by Tracie Ellis works a treat in this space (really like the improvised tea chest bedside table too!) –

Wow - this really is a striking bedhead (love the stripes!) and the mix of patterns work so well (for a similar bedhead try our Bespoke BedNest service) -

This is our Maddison bedhead in Castello Sphere fabric (cushions in Glamour Storm).  It’s a gorgeous bed and definitely one of our favs, we love those moody blues!

Walter G textiles has exquisite fabrics that are hand block printed and naturally dyed – here is a sample of their beautiful indigo range –

Boutique textile agency, Shibori really push the boundaries of this ancient Japanese craft (check out their collaborations with Lee Mathews, Fleur Wood, McTavish and Sibella Court).  Now you can have a hand dyed feature on your wall too with their beautiful wallpaper collection -

So are you feeling the indigo blues too?  I’m starting to think more indigo dreams….

Enjoy!
