I always get a bit excited about decorating walls.  There are just so many things you can do – paint them, cover them, create a gallery, hang a striking piece of artwork – or simply leave them exposed in all their raw glory.

Sometimes a big blank wall can feel a bit daunting (I know, I'm staring at one right now...).  Paint is probably the safest and easiest option - afterall you can always repaint it if you don’t like it.  Wallpaper is more of an investment but the result can be absolutely stunning (there really are some gorgeous designs around at the moment).  We did a feature wall in our bedroom using Designer Guild’s Taisho Blossom – it’s the best decision we made for our home, our bedroom looks amazing (plus I got to squeeze a bit of pink into the space!).

Below is stylist Fiona Richardson’s Melbourne home – she’s pushed the boundaries a little by choosing a moody dark paint palette (walls in Dulux Juvenile).  The colour showcases her artwork and furnishings beautifully (I especially love that table…) -

If dark is not for you, there are loads of bright pastel shades out at the moment (check out Shaynna Blaze's  range for Taubmans).  Melbourne fashion  illustrator Megan Hess (clients include Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Dior) has chosen a pale turquoise (or if you’d rather “tiffany blue”) as a backdrop for her gallery wall -

Gallery walls can be casually organised in a rather organic fashion…

…or hung on a grid.  Both make for a strong wall feature adding interest to a room -

This map is a novel idea and would make a great talking point (and maybe a bit handy when planning your travels!) -

Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s black and white chevron wallpaper is a bold statement in this entryway – no other décor is necessary!

I love this – Anna Spiro’s Round and Round the Garden wallpaper in Ginger Jar Blue for Porter's Paints –

This is from a project we are working on in Middle Park, Melbourne - it's Greg Natale wallpaper (also for Porter's Paints - seen here in Horizontal).  This just went up last week in the playroom and we have offset the stripe to give real impact.  Not the best shot but we thought it was worth a peek!

The upholstered bedhead and Tom Dixon pendant light work a treat with the Fornasetti wallpaper (Mediterranea from Cole and Son) -

An exposed brick wall can be just as beautiful as shown in this pic by Melbourne photographer Sean Fennessy -

So there you have it, some inspiration for those walls you may be pondering over.  Now what to do with mine....
