We've just come back from a wonderful holiday in the Byron Bay Hinterland and were lucky enough to stay in one of the most gorgeous houses I have ever seen.
It was supposed to be a total "zone out and relax" kind of holiday but the house was just inspirational and I drove everyone mad with comments like "how could we work some outdoor seating like this into our tiny courtyard?" and "I'm sure these are Mokum fabrics - this collection came out a few years ago - do you think they're still running it?"
The house is an original Queenslander that was moved to the site high up in the Hinterland, rennovated and extended - it has won awards and been featured in numerous magazines.

Despite the stunning design, fabulous finishes and incredible furniture, however, what we so loved was that it has retained a gorgeous, relaxed "lived-in" feel and it's just not the kind of place where you are terrified of sitting on the sofa in case you muck up the cushions or feel the need to attach a leash to your 2 year old!

Our girls ran wild (and loved the adorable kids room) and we all enjoyed the views, the pool, the real cook's kitchen and the verandas.
Ammamead is just full of light and space with original floorboards and simple white and neutral paint colours - what makes it really special is the use of fabrics and artwork to add personality, character, style and soul. The reds in the kids' room, the soothing blues in the main bedroom and the patterns on the day beds all work together to create a co-ordinated but not "matchy matchy" feel. Of course, they could do with adding some upholstered bedheads in the bedrooms to complete the look - watch this space!
