I suspect that my thumb is beginning to turn a little green….judging by the amount of indoor plants that are starting to populate my house.  From what’s buzzing around the web lately, like them or loathe them, there is no denying that indoor plants are back – and thriving.

I’ll admit, not so long ago the thought of an “indoor plant” brought  flashbacks of the 70s and 80s (having suffered a serious overdose of maidenhair fern).  Now I LOVE how house plants make me feel.  They can breathe new life into a room adding touches of green and texture, but mostly they can really personalise a space (and you know how much we like to make a space feel our own).  Oh, and if you’re wondering, I’ve fallen back in love with the maidenhair fern (in fact, I’ve got a rather magnificent one growing in my dining room).  To help you on your way into the world of indoor greenery, here are some of our top picks:

Mad about the plant - the uber cool Fiddle Leaf Fig.  I really can’t tell you just how much I adore this plant!

With their oversized leaves the Fiddle Leaf Fig brings a gorgeous sculptural element to any room.  This one provides a wild sense of drama and energy -

The terrarium trend is still going strong and shows no sign of slowing down.  Grouping them together can make a strong visual impact -

Succulents are hardy and a good option if you fear you may be neglectful (just make sure you place them near good light!).  No need to stick to terracotta though, how about these corks for tiny succulents -

These vintage vessels work brilliantly too -

If you are short on space, consider hanging plants.  How about this Macramé holder – if you are feeling crafty you could make one yourself!

I really love this hanging garden by Shane Powers for West Elm.  Air Plants are fantastic home décor for minimalists - they are rootless, soilless and very undemanding (and pretty cool right now too) -

I thought this was a bit of fun (but maybe not for everyone…), French brand Bellila has built furniture to accommodate plants -

Indoor greenery is not so scary (believe me, if I can do it, you can do it).  I hope the above gives you some inspiration…and courage…and of course we would always love to hear your thoughts too!
