How to make room for all your new Christmas loot
The Christmas festivities are behind us and life is slowly and inevitably getting back to normality. All those presents under the tree that had been taunting the family have been opened and by now the torn wrapping paper tossed into the recycling bin. That was the easy bit! You now need to be sure you have enough room to store all your new gifts as well as the decorations. The last thing we need is a home that feels like it's closing on you and feeling cluttered as opposed to cool and collected.
A big part of having a home that is well put together is the ability to bring together various styled elements (both functional or ornamental) and the colours to create consistency or contrast as required. If you only add to what you have, your home might start to resemble a patchwork quilt - we're talking hoarder status.
We've pulled together a few ideas that might help you feel a little more organised and set you up for the New Year!
Enact the Christmas clean
Just like spring cleaning, it's time to engage in the Christmas clean. Before you can bring in the new you need to get rid of the old. Don't worry, you don't have to ditch last year's trends just yet. But you should go through your storage and assess what you've put away. Some of it might be too outdated and with no hope of being recycled or utilised with more current trends, should be tossed.
Perhaps you can even donate some of your gently used items. If you have old clothes that you no longer wear or have outgrown, or if you have baby clothing but no baby on the way, then now is a good time to part ways.
Overall, this process should include both Christmas decorations and regular decorations. Anything that is taking up space and no longer appreciated should go!
Get fashionable with storage
Storage doesn't have to come in the form of big, bulky bins. Rather, we think it's about time that organisational compartments become a part of your home decor. At the top of everyone's Christmas wish list needs to be the essentials in fashionable storage.
If your closet is still a bit full after your clearance, you'll have to get creative with how you organise your space. This is typically where people start breaking out the clunky boxes, but here at BedNest, we don't see why you should have to sacrifice style for organisation. We live in a world where you can have both!
